Some finishes

I have a few things to show. Do you sometimes slow down and lose a little of your enthusiasm? I do, but I have it all back now. First of all let me say that I have seen the new Quilt Sampler Magazine and Suppose, where I work, is the first shop featured. It is a really nice article.

Union Station is finished and will be hanging at Suppose.

Gardener's Angel for spring is finished and just needs a frame.

One more crazy quilt block is finished.

Its good to have some things finished. Now on the other finishes and maybe some brand new projects.

Thursday Fun

I finished the first quilt for Doll Quilters Monthly. I will be sending it to Nancy tomorrow, so I can't show the whole thing. Here is the teaser she can see. . .

I also made the Stashbee blocks for Beth.

She chose a very easy block, so I just got it done. Then I won't have to worry about it at the end of the month. You see, I have a new project I need to spend some time on.

Two members of Suppose Guild are having babies soon and one very special daughter has just announced her big news. She has been making and saving quilts and receiving blankets for years, but she does not know how to knit. The next ones will be red.

I'm excited today because I just got a new book in the mail, "The Magic of Crazy Quilting" by Marsha Michler. She is amazing. I can't wait to settle down and read for an hour or so tonight.

Working Hard

Thanks everyone for your kind comments on my last post.  The excitement has died down and I am still working hard.

This is a quilt I am working on for Suppose, the quilt store where I work.  It is so fun to get to sew brand new fabrics.  This is Half Moon Modern.

These are some crazy quilt blocks for the CQJP 2012 challenge I am working on.  Some are done, some are started and some are naked.  Can you guess which is my favorite?

Mr. Peacock has lots of bling.  I think he is gorgeous.  The block just to his right in the previous picture has a center circle piece that I copied from some earrings my friend was wearing in church one day. It is all done in metallic thread.  I'm going to ask her if she recognizes it.

This will be the 12" center of my crazy quilt which will be surrounded by the twelve 6" blocks.  Now you know I am serious about doing this challenge.  All these lovely pieces except the center circle are from linings my daughter tore out of wool clothing and silk scraps she gave me.  I think the blue and pink center will also be my quilt back.

I finally got the directions for the woven quilt added.  I called it the No-Piece Throw.  Sorry I took so long to do it.  I have really been enjoying hand stitching lately.  I am doing more crazy patch blocks, working on a redwork panel that has a square for each month and other things that will show up on this blog eventually.  Why are there always more things to do and enjoy than there is time?

I made this quilt in about four hours.  There is no piecing and it is ragged around the outside edge.  Its only 36" square.  It is perfect to snuggle in while watching a movie.

 

I'm on a roll.  This is my second block for CQJP 2012.  The upper left patch is a piece of a man's tie with it's label.  Don't you love the gold button at the bottom?

I went shopping for goodies and these are some I bought.  I'm using them on my next block, which I pieced with silk scraps from a quilt Jennifer made.  I guess I am addicted to crazy quilting.

Quilting inspiration

Happy New Year!  Christmas was great here.  Hope everyone had lots of fun, family, good food, etc.  Now its time to get back into the swing of things.  I have lots of projects planned for the year ahead.  First, I signed up for the Crazy Quilt Journal Project challenge at cqjp.org. I'm not cheating, but I already have some blocks started that I can use.  I'll share pictures later. 

These potholders and oven mit were a Christmas gift from my sister.  She is amazing.  She told me that she made about 26 sets for gifts for family and friends.  This original design is called Four Seasons Moon.  Now I will tell you that last summer on her vacation from teaching school, Carol Ann fell and broke both of her arms.  She has had a very long recovery and when her insurance would no longer pay for physical therapy, she took on this project to help herself get back the use of her arms and hands.  A lot of her work during this time was hand sewing and she is now hand quilting a wall hanging for her physical therapist.  I am counting my blessings and being inspired by her.

Happy Monday Again

The last week was a guild week.  Monday was Quilters Anonymous, where I am working on a block of the month.  This quilt will be a long time in the making.  Pix will come later when there is more to see.  Ditto for the medallion quilt at Suppose Creative Guild.  Its just fun to get together with friends and sew. 

I have been to events with daughter, Jennifer.  We wore witch hats last Friday evening to get a bigger discount at Ghouls Night Out.  Food, make 'n take, halloween  ideas and lots of friends were what made it a fun evening. 

Today Jennifer and I went to a Nancy Halversen trunk show.  She is a delightful lady.  When I asked how she accomplishes so much in the same 24 hours that I have, she replied, "I don't sleep much."  Is that a tip for success in any endeavor?  I think I will stay up late.

This is a nine patch quilt I finished piecing this week.  I pieced a back from scraps, so I won't even need to buy extra fabric.  I will quilt it when its my turn on the midarm machine.  I call it Grandmother's Nine Patch.  It is done in 1930's fabric.  My grandmother would have been in her thirties in 1930.  I see a mistake in this photo, but it was just on the design wall.  I actually pieced it correctly. 

I got out a project a couple of weeks ago that I may be working on for the rest of my life.  Every now and then it gets put away for a while.  This is just a small section of some finished blocks.

These are blocks I have been working on recently and one of my boxes of crazy quilt doo dads.

 This is my alltime favorite block because of the beaded vine on the pink fabric.

This crazy quilt contains everything imaginable--buttons, charms, ribbon embroidery, tatting, crocheting, fabric labels, fabric from ties, beads, ric rac, lace.  Here is where my imaginataion can run free.
